Trust in Health Care System?

Most of us want to trust the health care system. We would like to trust kindly doctors to make decisions in our best interests. We assume that, in a crisis, saving lives is the health care providers top priority. Right?

Unfortunately, not always. these days, life-and-death decisions are often driven by financial interests. Its up to us to protect ourselves against disease, against denials and delays, and against substandard care. the more we know, the better we are protected. Knowledge and organization is power. A Patient Advocate or Nurse Navigator can help you get the best outcome for the patient when dealing with the health care providers.“

As a Nurse Navigator / Health Care Coach I work directly for the patient and not on the side of the Health Care System to ensure the best quality of life for the patient. This way I have the best interest of the Patient at heart. Kitty

The words trust in the Health Care System are a bit of a oxymoron.
Unfortunately in this economy insurance companies and other health care providers are looking at saving money, often at the patients expense.
I recently have been working with a patient that had her insurance company deny her out patient surgery, She had lesions that were getting worse each day, and causing her pain and discomfort. The lesions needed to be biopsied. I had to jump through some major hoops and stayed on hold in the insurance phone “vortex” for several hours…. faxed a zillion pages of documentation, and Finally, got the right info to the right people and the patient is now approved for surgery. She is very disillusioned with the Health Care System.
